The Julien Dubuque Yacht Club as we know it today, was incorporated June 28, 1960 by Calvin Schnucker.  J.D.Y.C. members continue to appreciate and enjoy the camaraderie the club brings to boaters in the tri-state area!

The club started for larger “live aboard” type boats.  Only in recent years, the clubs by-laws changed to include different degrees of membership.  Today the J.D.Y.C. welcomes any boat owner who shares the love of boating.  We currently have over 110 members from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Each year a club member is elected to the rank of Rear Commodore. The current Rear Commodore is then promoted to Vice Commodore, and then to Commodore, holding each office for a year at a time.

The Julien Dubuque Yacht Club pulls the boating community together with weekend trips, jet ski dinner runs, back water tie ups, camping out, and planned social parties.  The J.D.Y.C. have five dinner meetings a year, which give the members an opportunity to stay in touch even during the cold months.  The club organizes two boat trips, one in the summer to Prairie du Chien, WI. and a fall run to the Quad Cities.  Both trips give members a chance to travel the Mississippi River together in large groups.  The “cold water jet ski run” and the “Chili Dump” are other examples of club activities which members can participate in to utilize the river as a relaxing escape from our busy lifes.

The women of the club have recently formed a First Mates Club, Yacht Club merchandise, auction items, cookbooks are sold to raise money for the club.

The Julien Dubuque Yacht Club is a great way to enjoy the Mississippi river, while meeting life long friends.
